Distractions That I Don't Need...

Google (the master of my life) is teaming up with Hasbro for a version of Monopoly using GoogleMaps. There officially goes the 10% of efficient work I had left.

The preview site reads:

On the 9th SEPTEMBER, a world of property empire building on an unimaginable scale will be launched! A live worldwide game of MONOPOLY using Google Maps as the game board. The goal is simple. Play to beat your friends and the world to become the richest property magnate in existence.

These two images of a huge pillar of star birth demonstrate how observations taken in visible (top) and in infrared light (bottom) by Hubble reveal dramatically different and complementary views of an object.

Composed of gas and dust, the pillar resides in a tempestuous stellar nursery called the Carina Nebula, located 7,500 light-years away in the southern constellation Carina.

The People of Walmart

Mashable found this great site, The People of Walmart. I have to say, I don't really need another reason to mock walmart and it's shoppers, but (in a GOB fashion) 'Come On?!' This is really a knee slapper. Unfortunately, I have not been able to connect to the actual site and Mashable is reporting due to a fortunate story of the site in TIME the site hasn't been able to handle it's new traffic. (via)

Interpol frontman Paul Banks' video for his post-punk "Games For Days," Banks plays two characters. Michael Jackson

I haven't mentioned too much about MJ. He was an inspiration, in fashion and music and just overall entertainment. I mentioned his passing to my mother, and she didn't seem that concerned. But I found the best way to relate this news to her was he was my generation's Elvis. I can't ever remember a time he wasn't around, the King of Pop, the greatest entertainer to live. I don't want to repeat what so many have said, but this hand made outfit by LUXIRARE is breathe taking. I think this is my favorite tribute to the icon. The embellishment on the leather might be my fave detail, well, that and the glove. So gorgeous. (via)

Graphic Identity is something we deal with everyday. As a hands down Coca-Cola drinker I am of course partial to staying true to one's self and graphics. Plus this neat-o graphics found at Thinkgalaud.com shows me that pepsi (even with its century gothic font new logo) is trying too hard.

the Bauhaus, 90 years of Inspiration

What artists (graphic, music, or architect) aren't inspired by the Bauhaus. Walter Gropius founded Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar in 1919 in a bankrupt Germany and the younger generation was eager to make positive changes. (via smashing mag)


Bauhaus selected some of the best talent from each trade to become Master Instructors. Not only did they teach the student, they motivated and inspired.

A Legend Passes

It is always a sad day when a member of your social, peer, or influenced community passes away. Charles Gwathmey, a member of the famed New York Five (sometimes referred to as the whites) and a principal of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects, died on Monday at age 71 after a battle with esophageal cancer. Known for meticulously conceived modernist designs influenced by Le Corbusier (a personal fave), Gwathmey launched his career with a house for his parents, completed in 1967, that earned him wide acclaim and would remain a touchstone throughout his career. (via) Gwathmey did a few 'quiet' but beautiful favorites of mine: Whig Hall, the Guggenheim addition, and Hampton Home.

Google is at it again...

This time its Al Gore style.

The United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) in collaboration with several Googlers has created a map that visualizes greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by a number of industrialized countries.
The aim of this map is to give scientists, decision-makers, media and the general public a new way to navigate data collected since 1990. We hope that this can provide a valuable tool for understanding climate change leading into the upcoming negotiation of a new climate change agreement in Copenhagen at the end of this year. (via)
