{ Knoxville Murals: Sprucing Up Dead Space }

It looks like those Dead Spaces under the interstate by-passes are getting some love in north knoxville. A mural project was started a few months back by the north knoxville communities (Fourth and Gill, Parkridge, old North, and Knoxville) and led by Parkridge resident Lynne Sullivan and artist (chosen via contest last winter) Per-Ole Lind, also an East Knox resident. But it seems like the murals are finally taking shape and coming together and additionally bringing the communities together!

“It’s done more than create art,” Sullivan said. “It’s created community. And I hope it’s just the first of many projects the neighborhoods can do.”

{ Rain Barrel of Dia de los Muertos: The Showing }

So I finally finished that barrel.. I didn't update on here as much as I should have, but luckily Storm Water Matters posted some GREAT photos of the final barrels on their facebook page. Be sure to attend the opening at the KMA on Sunday May 22 at 2:00pm and bid on my barrel! or any of the other awesome ones! You can also bid online at their website.  The money goes to a great cause, and I'm sure if mine had the highest bid it would totally validate me wanting to paint more ... tehehehe. Thanks and Enjoy the final pics!

{ Eye Candy: A Great New Blog, and a Gallery Showing to go with it! }

Modern Sentiment, a blog from the mind of Sara Martin, is a great new addition to my weekly read and Eye Candy hunt. Martin's new business is based off her love and philosophy of design and style. These mixed media collages are now on display at the Emporium (on Gay Street, in Knoxville) and really a must see. I didn't get a chance to attend the opening last first friday, but I heard it was smashing, and the showing (of art) will be up for the month. I highly recommend stopping by, and also checking out the new blog, Modern Sentiment. Enjoy Reichstag, one of my faves from her online gallery! {via}

{ Hard Knox featured WFTDA League }

Big Congrats goes out to the Hard Knox Rollergirls for being the featured WFTDA League! I know, from my unfortunately fleeting interest in Derby (it's hard to skate without insurance and being preggers) that those girls have been working hard to make a real presence here in Knoxville and in the world of National Derby Athletics. If you are at all interested please read the links, and attend a few bouts! they are a true blast! and I hope to rekindle my derby love in a few months! {via}

{ Linxxx Luv }

and of course in my absence on the blog, I've collected a few really beautiful sites I'd love to share!

  • Saks in the City - Fashion blogs are a dime a dozen, but with Saks I found a real girl trying to make it in the really big city (Paris), and she is doing it all while looking great and sharing her secrets. I know, as I have never been petite in size, fashion and even just drooling over fashion is hard. There is never anything that fits just right, and while there have been great advances in the ...dare I say it... Plus Size World, It's still hard to find someone to really identify with, but Saks is great! wearing things I would wear, and not at all feel weird about wearing them.
  • Isle of Tune - a great little time waster. This site lets you make roads and houses and plant trees and lights in a city of your dreams, but to car driving music. wait.... does that make sense? It's like Sim city, but as you let your cars drive around it plays music based off where you placed your houses and stuff... It's really cute and fun! and I'm just loving the MJ Beat It city!
  • Google Body - Now you can be an anatomy perv! Google just recently launched Google Body! an 'Google Earth' for the body. I know I'm not the only one who zoomed in on the genital, right?
  • Missed Connections - You know those great posts on Craigslist, Missed Connections? Well this clever artist is making up some great illustrations to go along with those missed out love ones.

{ Infographics: New York Magazine }

Has anyone else ever noticed (or got super design envy) over the infographic the New York Magazine puts out? Well The Creative Review knew I wasn't the only one, and put together a great lil' write up (and I mean little) about the wonderful graphics they put together... Doesn't it make you jealous? Why can't the bustling city of Knoxville (maybe the Metropulse) have fab graphics? and who makes these? is there a team? It seems I have a little research to do this morning, and maybe a letter or two to send out.  Either way, here are a few to enjoy and keep for inspiration!

{ TV does Knoxville }

What does a Gigantic Burrito and a fancy new house have in common? Both are from tv shows that are comin' to Knoxville! It seems like Extreme Home Makeover is looking for a new family, and Man v. Food, a favorite of mine, is shoting an episode here. Seems like Adam (of M v F) went to Ye Olde Steak House, Sweet P's (so good! and was my neighbor), and Downtown Grill & Brewery just to name a few. I hope he goes to my fave, Tomato Head! No visit to Knoxville is complete without it! Can't wait for these episodes!

{ Dr. Sketchy: coming to you }

So I've recently fallen in love with Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School. These gals basically set up life drawing classes in bars (it was started in 2005 by Molly Crabtree in a dive bar in Brooklyn) and it open to anyone who loves to drink and sharpen their drawing skills... or lack of skillz. Any and everyone no matter the skill level are encouraged to attend. I haven't been yet, but I've been watching vids and reading reviews, and am a little distraught there isn't a branch in good ol' Knoxville. But not to fear, I have requested more info! I'll keep you guys posted on that, but in the mean time let me know your thoughts. I mean who doesn't want to drawing gorg-half-nakie ladies? love love

Who Stole the Sunshine?

So Sunday was warm, I mean really really warm. I went to the park and sweated! from the heat! not my activity. So today is what, you might ask? oh yeah, it's snowing...
I think Kat said it best...
