{ Winx to Linx }

This has been a crazy few weeks, and like always I'm behind on what I'm doing. But I'm in need of sharing my awesome finds of late.

• Swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer mike joyce, owner of stereotype design in new york city. Drawing from his love of punk rock and swiss modernism, two movements that have absolutely nothing to do with one another, mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters. And these are definitely worth the bookmark. These are real shows, and totally reminds me of some of my fave Frank Stella work, and probably needs me to print a few.  
• I knew I wasn't the only one who was noticing handwritten letters, typically from editors, finding it's way all over the publishing world! and even on some of my fave blogs, A Beautiful Mess uses it all the time! Luckily Noteworthy put together a great list of brushes (free!) to download and try, I can't wait to get home and really try these out on my tablet! {via}
• The Creativity Post put together a really great list of 12 things you were never taught in school. I'm not normally a big fan reader of these sort of posts, but I found this one pretty inspiring for the new year and my new positive outlook. {via}
• Fourth Year Studio - a great letterpress company, and former architecture students with me, out of Knoxville is having a fund raiser for Baby Tyson (who is a heart baby of another fellow archy over at Vandy). You can check his inspiring story here. And as a new mother, I have no idea how I would be able to be half as strong as Tyson's mom, but they are so wonderful, and it's great to see how wonderful he has been doing, I'm somewhat addicting to checking his status, and hoping (since I'm not the praying type) he's continuing to do well {to purchase a calendar}.
• Best Movie Posters of 2011 - some definite eye candy in the mix. I'm in LOVE with the Eames one .. of course! also a brilliant documentary if you haven't seen it, it's a must. And I have a serious crush on Cam Archer's film, Shit Year. {via}
• Shrinking Kat - Kat, whom you might remember from previous post, is dieting like no other, and documenting her journey on the dukan diet, the one Kate Middleton supposedly lost all her pre-wedding weight on. I know it's a fad diet, but it seems like one I could get behind, with all these veggies and meats! If you want to follow and encourage Kat's success please click. {via}

{ Movie Barcodes }

Requiem for a Dream

Moviebarcode is way cooler than it sounds. Apparently this site takes movies and reduces each frame of the film to a stretched out still and smashes 'em all up together (in super crude terms)... this might explain it better.

Each ‘barcode’ on the site features every frame of a given film vertically stretched and then assembled into something that looks like a barcode. The result is like a graph that charts the use of color in any given movie. Note: there is no actual data encoded within these graphics. Yes, I tried a barcode scanner on a few. I’d love to see someone figure out how to add more specific info, but as is this is a weird, oblique way to look at part of a film’s visual style in one broad overview. It is like being able to go down to a paint store and grab a card of paint chips representing some of your favorite movies. {via}

Whatever is going down, it's beautiful, and I love the idea of potentially embedding more information into those images. Right now I'm happy to just enjoy the palette of these films as a one image 'barcode'.  

{ A Little Behind }

So I just realized, even though work hasn't been bad, I've completely neglected you. My last post was on my birthday, and it's almost been a whole damn month of my silence, and for that I apologize. I'll update you on my skinny...

I've seen a few movies, some worth high praise and other not so much.
Easy A - I heard good things, and I even heard these things from people I trusted with good taste. But alas, it was a total disappointment. I don't think awesome amounts of drinking or drugs could have made this bearable. I mean, it had it's moments, but I think first off it could have been half the length! I sort of got the idea of what it would be about from the previews, Dawson's Creek talking highschooler (Emma Stone) starts spreading rumors she's a skank, and it get way way way out of hand... I mean, not a bad premise, but that's about it. Overall... I'd say a .....55%

Black Swan - On the other hand, this proved almost as good as the rumors I had heard. I would say there was way more touching screens then I thought, but it added a nice uncomfortable-ness to film. Beth (played by Winona Ryder) ... whom I had no idea was even in the film ... was a fantastic character. Somehow, with all my hectic-ness and crazy life it's nice to see someone else on the edge of a break down. What I really enjoyed were the small, maybe just 1 second worth of crazy, Natalie Portman's Character, Nina, would see... I really had to question my eyes, and it helped me relate to her more. While I would say I did enjoy Requiem for a Dream more, Arnoffsky did a brilliant job at leaving me gasping and wanting more......91%

I also recently got my hair did. I've been super broke... I know, we all are this time of year, and signed up to be on the mailing list for SuperCuts Training Class. Normally I don't think I'd even consider getting a hair cut there... not that I'm snobby, but I am really partial to Lox, but I guess because these new trainees are more scrutinized during the training class than once they get their day to day job, my girl, Kaytee (or whatever her name was) did a FABULOUS job! think Posh Spice but slightly longer and with a heavy bang. It's cute and I'll try to get a picture up after I shower today... It's a little dis-shelved right now.

I think that's about it, I've been to Chattanooga, and I think I'm heading back this weekend... for the holidays, but there isn't too much going on there.... I've been making websites, but mostly for friends for gifts, so posts once they are up and running! Oh and all my new graphic making has been on my new computer! it was a birthday gift, and it still rocking my world. And speaking of birthdays, I did have a lil' shindig, which of course things got too rowdy to remember to take pictures! But really I've just been spending too much time with King Bean and his clan (yes, my lil sensitive male kitty is now being referred to as King Bean, but it's only fitting... he does rule the roost).

It's time for another installment of Linxxx Luv (also known as Winxxx to Linxxx). So here are so handy, fun time things I have found for entertainment on the interweb.

1. Missed Connections Illustrated. You know that super funny section on craigslist, you know, the you secretly hope you will find a post describing you (or atleast someone you know). Well this lil' jewel illustrates those posts. It's a super ceeeyyute!

2. Three DD. Just like what it says, three dimensional boobs. grab those blue and red glasses and get to checkin' out the tah tah's.

3. The Blueprint Database. They even have a Millenium Falcon!

4. A closer look at the making of a film I'm dying to see, Fantasic Mr. Fox. (via)

5. Last, a nifty lil' animation of the 4 world maritime powers and their decline. Totally nerdy, yet totally entrancing. I heart year 1960 when France explodes! tehehe...

1. 100 Years of Design Manifestos. I haven't read them all, but F.T. Marinetti and Walter Gropius and El Lissitzky are ones I always go back to.

2. Do you Tweet? More Recently I have become way into it, but have you wondered why people quit following you? or who it was? Quitter lets you see just that, and what your last tweet was that might have sent them running.

3. Lessons from Swiss Style Graphic Design. What can't the Swiss do?

4. Inglorious Bastards opens in theatres in 2 weeks, and I have a serious itch to see this. Tarantino never disappoints.

5. Remember Kara Janx from Project Runway? She definately wasn't a fave. of mine, and honestly I think she had something to do with Santino not doing as well towards the end (he was my fave). Well her line is looking alright....

6. And the last thing I need is another distraction at work. Studies via pubmed show that gaming during work helps increase productivity... well sign me up I need some PORTAL!

Roller Derby + Drew Barrymore

This is now my most anticipated film I have gots to see! Drew Barrymore's Directorial Debut (opening October 9th) is focused on an awkward texas teen, Bliss played by Ellen Page, trying to rebel against her beauty pageant mother and discovers the rough and tumble world of roller derby.
