{ Can I Just Live Here? }

As a new mom I'm sure I follow / subscribe to too many blogs and people about parenting (mostly cool things for kids), but today there was a post for these incredible outdoor play houses. Now my lil' man just has your standard run of the mill fischer price play house / slide combo (it was actually a craigslist find), so he doesn't need a new play house or anything, but the designer inside of me just SQUEELED when I saw these!

Meet the Illinois Play House from Smart Play house (appropriately named)! Smart Play House has tons of other great modern play houses, but isn't this Farnsworth House knock off the cutest? I'd totally live there (well if the darn thing was scaled up like 300%). I mean it's a straight up copy, but who hasn't copied this house (thinking of ol' PJ, and don't forget Bill Shell - ut arch knows what I'm saying).

{ Apparently Artists and Cats have a Bond }

While I'm no stranger to the benefits of having some great kitties. It's always nice to find others (artists I admire no less!) who share the same love for felines as me. Similar to the Freddie Mercury article, I'm in love with Dali and his beautiful Ocelot, and Warhol and his 25 kittens all named Sam.

{ Modern Quilt }

I've been dying for a more modern everyday quilt, I am in LOVE with Nubbytwiglet's design for the blogacademy (someone please send me to one!) and have been obsessed with finding a quilt similar to that design. I feel like I keep seeing it, but can't find it... I know, that makes no sense! But I finally did! well... sort of... The lovely lady, Kate, of See Kate Sew. Posted an adorbs quilt she made (and a how to!) for a cute lil' babe. It's pink, but it has that fractal pattern I love so much. Now to make mine but with greys and aqua! {via}

{ Guatemalan Architecture }

Swoon - worthy doesn't even begin to describe this dream house! Corallo House by PAZ Arquitectos is everything a south american villa should be even with a live tree growing through the house and all! and ohhh the use of materials, especially the concrete (board formed of course), and check out the second image with the conduits and other electrical/plumbing/mechanical nonsense spanning the concrete and exposed.... makes me wish I lived somewhere that had stupidly cheap labor. But I really must commend PAZ for a brilliant use of the Guatemalan terrain. As a first generation American, with basically all my family living in Guatemala, I still visit the 'motherland' regularly, now I just need to see if I can get an meeting with the owner to tour this home next time! {via}

{ Type Hype: Handmade Type }

Yay for a well deserved Type Hype post! It's been a while since I've crushed on a type/font, but luckily Colossal is dishing out the eye candy today! I've always had a soft spot for process and transformation, and Tien Mao-Lien does not disappoint with her Handmade Type: a typography experiment. I mean, just look at all those .gif's! Love 'em!
Lien drew shapes with ink on one or both of my hands, manipulating my gestures into the corresponding shape to signify an upper-case letter. Then, using the same shape on my hands, I manipulated my gesture or changed the perspective through which the shape is viewed in orderto transform the upper-case letter to a lower-case of the same letter. Removingor redrawing the darkened shape on my hands is not allowed in the experiment. The only way to make the model transform from an upper-case to a lower-case (orvice versa) is changing the gestures or the perspectives. {via}

Talk about a Beauty! The Internet Archive is hosting a copy of the American Specimen Book of Type Styles put out by the American Type Founders Company in 1912. It's a 1300-page book listing hundreds of typefaces and their possible use cases. It's Nouveau-esque page borders are enough to swoon over, but the types, oh the beautiful types! {via}

Previous student and peer, Ashley not only is rockin' out at Yale this semester, but has made just about the best tumbler out there... I know what you are thinking, how can there be something better than Paula Dean riding things? But for all the architects / architecture students out there, this is gold! Architecture Ryan Gosling is my newest obsession. I mean, just look at those eyes and tell me you didn't wish he was whispering those nerdy references to you. {via}
