I hate tweazing those bitches...

I do hate eyebrow upkeep, and that always makes me think, How important are they? well a recent study showed more important than I thought!

According to a study by Javid Sadr and his colleagues at MIT, eyebrows are a crucial part of facial identification. The behavioral neuroscientists discovered that faces without eyebrows are like land without landmarks. The study: Volunteers were asked to identify fifty famous faces, including that of former U.S. president Richard Nixon and actor Winona Ryder. The photos were digitally altered and shown either without eyebrows or without eyes. When celebrities lacked eyes, subjects could recognize them nearly 60 percent of the time. However, when celebrities lacked eyebrows, subjects recognized them only 46 percent of time.

6 Fonts that Piss People Off

A furor erupts when Ikea changes its official typeface. Here are five other controversial fonts, involving Nazis, incest, and comic books.
this might be my fave exert...
Germans argued for literally hundreds of years over which font was more German: Antiqua, or Fraktur. Antiqua was descended from old Latin typefaces; Fraktur was invented in the 17th century, and was used in Germany's first newspapers. Otto von Bismark wouldn't read anything that wasn't printed in Fraktur; on the other side, Goethe, Nietzsche and Jakob Grimm (of the brothers Grimm) all decried it, in favor of Antiqua. Hitler eventually settled the dispute: The Nazi's banned Fraktur due to its (untrue) "Jewish" origins. (Nazi buffoonery, as always, was on full display; the dictate against Fraktur was printed in Fraktur.) The Allies then resuscitated the font, in the money printed by their interim government.

Urban Dictionary

I am not the biggest football fan, but I have always been a fan of people watching, and at a University of Tennessee football game its always at it's A-game. Regardless of personal pride for my alma mater you can't help but get caught up in the excitement. And with the replacement of ol' Phil (aka the Great Pumpkin) with the hottie Lane Kiffin, I figure this might be 'our' season... but then ut goes and starts lame Jonathan Crompton. BUT! some cleaver alumni decided to give him the best put down ever, an entry in Urban Dictionary.
Thanks for the classic sass and diss-ing! Be sure to check it and thumbs up it!

1.Crompton13 up, 1 down love it hate it
1) To throw an object 10 yards above a person's head or 10 yards short of their feet.

2) To perform a task well in a non-consequential activity but poorly in a real-life scenario.
Man, I would have caught that beer if you hadn't Cromptoned it!

Eye Candy (part III)

Stumbled upon Marek Haiduk, a Graphic Designer and Illustrator from Germany. His flicker page and website is total inspiration... The use of collision and montage is great, with a nice lil' nod to constructivism (my fave)... Here's a few I found on his flicker page.

Google (the master of my life) is teaming up with Hasbro for a version of Monopoly using GoogleMaps. There officially goes the 10% of efficient work I had left.

The preview site reads:

Welx Back Hubble!

I didn't know I was missing you until I saw these...
Thanks for coming back and bringing us these great images (via)

Above: Butterfly Emerges from Stellar Demise in Planetary Nebula NGC 6302

Above: Stars Bursting to Life in Chaotic Carina Nebula

These two images of a huge pillar of star birth demonstrate how observations taken in visible (top) and in infrared light (bottom) by Hubble reveal dramatically different and complementary views of an object.

Composed of gas and dust, the pillar resides in a tempestuous stellar nursery called the Carina Nebula, located 7,500 light-years away in the southern constellation Carina.

The People of Walmart

Mashable found this great site, The People of Walmart. I have to say, I don't really need another reason to mock walmart and it's shoppers, but (in a GOB fashion) 'Come On?!' This is really a knee slapper. Unfortunately, I have not been able to connect to the actual site and Mashable is reporting due to a fortunate story of the site in TIME the site hasn't been able to handle it's new traffic. (via)

Notes on Becoming a Famous Architect

above: The image is of unrestrained self indulgence... bling bling that is... I mean, come on! Foster is sorta a boob, right?

Ever wonder how to make it big? In these uncertain economic times you have to be willing to do anything to make it, especially as an architect. I mean, you can't become a Star-itect over night (even Maya Lin didn't have it easy, that whore!). Luckily there are guidelines for makin' it big. Notes on Becoming a Famous Architect is a great lil' site with great lil' illustrations on takin the architecture world by storm! Enjoy! and definatly check out the diagram on #62
