From as early on as I could remember I LOVED Freddie Mercury. I remember thinking he was sooo cool, almost super hero like in his videos. I even remember being bummed out about the AIDS announcement, only to be even more bummed when he died the next day. I know I didn't understand all his theatrics or his true brillance as an artist, but that has come with time and age.
This morning I did hear exciting news that conjured up these adolesent memories. Sacha Baron Cohen (yes, Borat) will be playing Freddie Mercury in a film written by Peter Morgan (the guy who wrote Frost Nixen, the Queen, and the Last King of Scotland). So far Brian May (who I have always considered to be one of the best and under rated guitarist of all time) and Roger Taylor have been working with the film's producers. There were once rumors that Johnny Depp would play this role.. But I really think Sacha could pull it off. I mean he's sung before (remember Sweeny Todd... also with Depp) but I think Sacha has it, other than the resemblences, the flamboyance that was Freddie. {via}
And as if I didn't need another reason to love Freddie, apparently he was a HUGE cat person. Dedicating on of his solo albums to four of his cats. He would even go so far as to call home while on tour to chat with the cats... and we all know how ridiculous long distance used to be! {via}

The 1984 Live Aid performance of Radio Gaga was epic. Freddy had the entire crowd clapping in unison.
I remember that! that concert was outta control awesome! you just don't see powerhouses rockin it like they used to!
Love the pic of Freddie and his cats in bed! The fact that he loved cats so much makes me love him that much more. May he rest in peace surrounded by his kitties:)
